BMW India has introduced a more affordable diesel engine variant of the 6 Series Gran Turismo four-door grand tourer. The 620d GT Luxury Line variant is priced at Rs 63.9 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India), which is the same as the entry-spec petrol variant.

This new variant is powered by BMW’s 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that is tuned to produce 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque. It’s the same engine that can be found in select variants of the X1, 3 Series, 3GT, X3 and 5 Series. In the 620d GT, it is paired to an 8-speed AT with a claimed 0-100kmph time of 7.9 seconds. However, it misses out on a sport transmission and launch control, both of which are offered on the 3.0-litre diesel-engined variants.

The feature list of the new 620d Luxury Line variant is identical to that of the 630i Luxury Line variant. It gets the same creature comforts like the two-part panorama glass roof, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, and 4-zone auto climate control. It gets the same 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster as well, while the 630d Luxury Line variant gets the latest 12.3-inch digital MID and keyless locking too. However, this new 620d GT variant does come equipped with cruise control with braking, adaptive LED headlights and adaptive two-axle air suspension.

It is the most affordable variant, priced the same as the 630i, and also misses out on features like wireless charging, parking assist, remote controlled parking and surround view cameras for the 360-degree live view. All of these features are available in the 630d Luxury Line variant however, for a slight premium in price. In terms of safety, all variants of the 6 Series GT have the same feature list to ensure occupant protection.

The BMW 620d GT has been launched with a price tag of Rs 63.9 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India), making it as well as the petrol engine variant the most affordable variants. Its most direct rival is the Audi A5 Sportback. However, for an extra Rs 5 lakh, you can have the 630d GT Luxury Line variant for a few more creature comforts along with some extra performance. A 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine offering 75PS and 220N more with a sports transmission and a 0-100kmph time of 6.1 seconds -- that premium seems quite justified indeed.
