Nepal President Ramchandra Poudel arrived at the Delhi Airport on Tuesday to be treated at AIIMS. He is being shifted from Kathmandu's Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital - Maharajgunj to AIIMS Delhi for treatment. Poudel was experiencing shortness of breath when he was admitted to the Kathmandu hospital however when his oxygen levels dropped and it was discovered that he has an infection in his lungs then it was decided that the Nepal President will be undergoing treatment in India, reported news agency ANI.

An advisor to 78-year-old President Poudel while talking to the Kathmandu Post said, “We rushed him to the hospital (in Kathmandu) after his oxygen level dipped. He has been taking antibiotics for 15 days but his situation has not improved.”

Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ visited the hospital to inquire about Poudel’s health. This was the second time that the President had been hospitalised within a month. Last week, he complained of having a stomach ache. A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to deploy government officials to facilitate his treatment, reported news agency PTI.

The team of officials which will be deployed will assess the nature of the president’s illness and report to the government and further decisions on his treatment will be taken after the report comes, reported PTI.

Poudel of the Nepali Congress was elected last month as the new president of Nepal which was a relief to the fragile coalition government headed by Prime Minister 'Prachanda’.

Poudel who is a common candidate of the eight-party alliance that included the Nepali Congress and Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’-led CPN (Maoist Center), received the vote of 214 members of the Parliament and 352 provincial assembly members.
