MG Motor, which aims to offer a premium experience to its customers, will have a brand-owned showroom in Gurugram

The British carmaker, MG Motor, will launch its first product, an SUV, in India by June 2019. The carmaker has announced that it will have around 45 dealerships up and running across the country by then. After the launch of the SUV in Q2 2019, MG’s next product will be a pure electric SUV, which will have a range of over 250km on a single charge, in early 2020.

Owned by China’s largest automotive group, SAIC, MG is currently in the process of finalising initial dealer partners in India. However, MG Motor will set up a brand-owned dealership in Gurugram. Earlier this year, MG told us that it aims to offer a premium experience to its customers. According to the carmaker, visiting showrooms and service centres of the brand will be a personalised experience for a customer, all with the help of the latest digital technology. More on this here.

There will be 100 touchpoints – include both dealerships and service centres – at the time MG Motor’s first product is launched in India. Moreover, pre-launch activities, which will include product roadshows for prospective consumers, will begin next month in the country. Both SUVs from MG will be manufactured at the Halol facility in Gujarat that it bought from GM. The current capacity at its Halol manufacturing facility stands at 80,000 units per annum, which will be expanded to 200,000 units going forward, depending upon the requirement.
