The test mule features updated headlamps, tail lamps and much more

It seems like there’s a couple of refreshed Mercedes-Benz SUVs coming our way soon. Latest spy shots suggest that the German carmaker is preparing a refreshed version of the GLC as test mules of the premium SUV were caught testing just a few weeks after spy shots of the fourth-gen GLE emerged online.

The GLC, which made its international debut in 2015 and arrived on our shores the next year, is expected to get a nip and a tuck to maintain its appeal in a competitive segment. The spy shots suggest that the updates could include new C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that double up as turn indicators. It will also get a new set of tail lamps with redesigned elements. Other revisions include new front and rear bumpers and a refreshed front grille.

On the inside, the GLC facelift is expected to imitate the recently updated C-Class. So, it’s safe to say that the 2019 GLC will feature a new 10.25-inch screen for the central infotainment system along with a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster. The steering wheel will also be new and feature touch-based controls for the infotainment system and cruise control, like the latest cars from Mercedes-Benz.

Under the bonnet, the refreshed GLC is likely to get the new set of petrol and diesel engines that power the C-Class facelift. If that happens, the GLC 300 will feature an updated 2.0-litre petrol engine that makes 258PS of power and 370Nm of peak torque, while the GLC 220 d will get a new 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 194PS and 400Nm. Both the engines will be mated to a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The current India-spec GLC can be had with a 2.0-litre petrol engine (245PS/370Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel engine (170PS/400Nm).

Mercedes-Benz is likely to showcase the updated GLC at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October followed by its international launch later in the year. So, expect the updated SUV to land here soon after that, probably early 2019. Since it is a facelift, the prices are expected to remain largely similar. The current version of the GLC is priced between Rs 50.40 lakh and Rs 54.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). When launched, the GLC facelift will renew its rivalry against likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and the Range Rover Evoque.
