The Maruti WagonR is as popular as it gets in the compact hatchback space. It is available in two engine options: 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre. Both engines are available with a manual or an AMT gearbox. We recently tested the WagonR 1.2-litre with an AMT to find out what fuel efficiency figure it returns in the real world.
The numbers reveal that the 1.2-litre AMT WagonR is not as fuel efficient as Maruti claims. This is expected as ARAI testing is done in a controlled environment.
If you drive predominantly in the city, expect the WagonR 1.2-litre AMT to return upwards of 13kmpl. If your city and highway running are almost equal, expect a fuel efficiency of just under 15kmpl. If you run mostly on the highway, that figure will go up to over 16kmpl.
If you own a WagonR 1.2-litre AMT, your findings may differ from ours as there are multiple factors that can affect fuel efficiency.
