New Delhi: The Delhi government on Wednesday allocated Public Works Department (PWD) portfolio to deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The portfolio was earlier with Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain.
The official order stated that the decision was taken by Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, in consultation with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
"In exercise of powers conferred under Rule 3 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1993, the Lt Governor, in consultation with the Chief Minister, is pleased to allocate portfolio of Public Work Department to Manish Sisodia, Dy Chief Minister, in addition to the portfolios he is presently holding," the notification by Delhi Government stated.
Sisodia is already in charge of education, finance, planning, land and building, vigilance, services, tourism, art, culture and language, labour and employment departments.
The notification further stated that Satyendra Jain will handle health, industries, power, home, urban development, irrigation and flood control and water portfolios. Gopal Rai will have the charge of development, general administration department and environment, forest and wildlife portfolios.
The development further cements Manish Sisodia's position as a prominent figure in Delhi government. Sisodia started his career as a journalist after attaining a diploma in journalism. But he was more attracted to social work and after AAP was formed, he soon rose up the ladder to become the number 2 in the party after Arvind Kejriwal.
