Mahindra’s Tivoli-based sub-4m SUV will share its dashboard with the SsangYong offering

Mahindra will offer its third sub-4m SUV, the SsangYong Tivoli-based offering (codenamed: S201), this year. It will join the automaker’s existing sub-4m models: the TUV300 and the NuvoSport. While Mahindra has been testing it for more than two years, the near-production test mule was spotted in April 2018. Now, the cabin of the upcoming SUV has been snapped for the first time.

The spy images of the S201 suggest that it will borrow its dashboard also from the Tivoli. It is quite apparent since the central console and instrument cluster of the spotted test mule look similar to the Tivoli’s. The steering wheel, however, appears to be different from the Tivoli’s.

A quick recap of the S201’s origins: It’s basically the SsangYong Tivoli which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016, but will have redesigned front and rear profiles so its overall length falls under four metres (< 4000mm). The Tivoli, for instance, measures 4,195mm in length in the UK.

The Mahindra S201 is expected to pack a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, same as the Tivoli. The unit, however, might not be similar since the Mahindra SUV, in all likelihood, will share it with the XUV500. We hope it’s that way only since the Tivoli doesn’t get Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity while the XUV500 facelift does (only Android Auto). The only SsangYong car that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as of now is the upcoming India-bound second-gen Rexton. The S201 should offer a six-speaker system (4 speakers and 2 tweeters) like the Tivoli.

Besides this, there are a host of features that the Mahindra SUV might miss out on due to it being positioned in a highly price-sensitive sub-4m SUV (a Rs sub-10 lakh vehicle) segment. Goodies such as dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, leather upholstery, electrically operated and heated outside rearview mirrors and front parking sensors might not, therefore, make to the S201’s equipment list. All of these features are offered with the Tivoli though.
