New Delhi: In view of low case count of Covid-19 in Maharashtra, the state government has decided to lift all pandemic-related restrictions including wearing of face masks , said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope quoted by news agency PTI.
The decision to do away with Covid related restrictions was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackarey, said Tope, quoted by the news agency.
From Gudhi Padwa (Marathi New Year which falls on April 2 this time), all COVID-19 related restrictions under the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act will be withdrawn, Tope said.
Wearing of face mask will be voluntary from April 2, he added.
The Central Government has also decided to lift covid-related restrictions from the country. Wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing will although continue as earlier, Central Government's order stated.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 119 new cases of Covid-19 in previous 24 hours.
Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla had earlier this month written a letter to all the states and union territories stating that the National Disaster Management Authority will discontinue from April 1, 2022.
