Chennai: The Madras High Court came down heavily on actor Vijay for challenging tax exemption on his Rolls Royce and fined him Rs one lakh. Actor Vijay, had filed a case in the Madras HC seeking exemption from tax on a Rolls Royce imported from the UK in 2012. The High Court ordered the actor Vijay to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh for tax evasion on his luxury car and the court further ordered that the fine should be paid within two weeks to the Chief Minister’s Covid Relief Fund.
"Actors who take stands on social justice should not seek such tax evasions, and actors should have to be heroes in real," Judge SM Subramaniam condemned Vijay's move.

However, in the petition filed, Vijay's name was mentioned but his profession was missing. The judge reprimanded Vijay, who is a popular actor in Tamil cinema, for making social comments in films and for pursuing the case without even mentioning his profession.
The Tamil actor's house was recently raided by the Income Tax Department before the release of his last movie — Master. At that moment, it was revealed that he had not committed any tax evasion. However, Netizens have been posting comments that Vijay, who earns several crores, is embroiled in an unnecessary controversy following a lawsuit seeking tax exemption for his car.
