The police in southern Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district have arrested a 69-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl aged around four and a half years. The girl, whose family lives next door to the accused in the Kodumon area of the district, used to come to his house to take Malayalam lessons from his wife, news agency Press Trust of India reported, quoting the Kodumon police.
The police said the incident took place on Monday, July 25, when the child came to his house for her lessons, according to the report.
Family members of the girl lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday after the girl narrated the incident to them the previous evening, an officer from the Kodumon police station was quoted as saying.
The accused was placed under arrest on Tuesday evening. He was produced before a court on Wednesday, and the judge remanded him in police custody, the officer added.
The police said the accused confessed to the crime during the interrogation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a Plus Two student in Kerala's Palakkad district was arrested on charges of rape after a Class 10 girl was found pregnant. According to a local media report, the boy from Edappal had met the girl on Instagram. He would allegedly come to the girl's house when she was alone.
The Chalissery police were informed after the girl was taken to a private hospital for a medical check-up, the report said, adding that the Plus Two student was arrested as the police started investigation and found out that he had been visiting the girl.
