New Delhi: A Congress candidate, Yusuf Sharif, contesting for the MLC elections in Karnataka has declared on Thursday a whopping Rs 1,744 crore assets belonging to him and his family. Besides, he possesses a luxury car of Rolls Royce brand worth Rs 2.01 crore and two Toyota Fortuners worth Rs 49 lakh each. He promised that he will sponsor education for three lakh students in six constituencies.


After submitting his affidavit to the Election Commission of India, in which it was written that he has two wives and fives children. With overall assets up to Rs 1,744 crore, Sharif alone owns the land valued at Rs 1,640 crore.


Speaking to ANI, he said: "All my businesses are legal; I purchase & sell every asset legally. I've given a declaration for all my money & paid tax for everything. I don't even have a private business. I buy & sell lump sum property."






Bringing his struggle into view, he ensured that he would want to educate children from his constituency. "I have struggled a lot and now when I have enough money, I want to do something for my friends, constituency, village, & Bengaluru. I want to educate 3 lakh students from our 6 constituencies," the Congress leader added.


 Yusuf's is rags to riches story. Hailing from Kolar Gold Fields, he was called Scrap Babu or Gujri Babu as he started by selling scrap before entering into Real Estate business. He has reportedly bagged a scrap contract with Indian Railways between 1991 and 1995, when CK Jaffer Sharief was the Union Railway Minister.
