Congress' Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra which began on September 7 in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari has so far covered 2,800 kilometers through 10 states is on a nine-day winter break. Although the yatra has garnered support from renowned people like former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and several other actors, Kamal Haasan is the only actor-politicians, who has interviewed Rahul Gandhi.

When asked by Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan about the security of the country, Rahul Gandhi said, "Security has become a holistic thing. Not necessarily one will get attacked from the borders, people can get attacked from anywhere. The most important thing today is that the country has internal cohesion. The point is not going to war, the point is being in a position where you cannot be attacked.

"There is a link between a weak economy, a confused nation without a vision, hatred and anger and the Chinese capturing territory because they know that we are dealing with internal confusion and lack of harmony, so they can attack."

Almost a week after  Kamal Haasan joined  Bharat Jodo Yatra in New Delhi, the actor-politician on Monday revealed the reason why he celebrates the yatra. While in conversation with Gandhi, he said, "The reason why I celebrate your walk is you are reaching out to people and lending the ear instead of standing on a podium and lecturing."

Kamal Haasan, who founded the Makkal Needhi Maiam party in February 2018, revealed the reason for him to join the yatra. "I felt that it's my duty as an Indian to voice my anguish and apprehension at what's happening," he said.

"This 2,800 kilometers walk is nothing, you have walked through sweat, tears and blood, literally. You have seen history unfolding from the inner circle, I have seen it from the outer circle. So, If I don't come with you, it's not fair," Kamal Haasan said while praising Rahul Gandhi for initiating the yatra.
