New Delhi: Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has officially launched its Jeep brand in the country today. Besides the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep has also launched the performance-spec Cherokee SRT in the country. The ‘M’ version of the X5 competes with the go-fast version of the Cherokee since Mercedes-Benz and Audi have no performance-oriented offering in this class. Here’s how the Cherokee SRT competes with the BMW X5M on paper.
Prices (Ex-Showroom New Delhi)
- Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT: Rs 1.12 crore
- BMW X5M: Rs 1.61 crore
Engine and performance
Out of these two performance-oriented SUVs, the BMW has a lower displacement engine, but it produces more power and torque.
The Cherokee SRT is pulled by a massive 6.4-litre naturally aspirated 'Hemi' V8. This engine is capable of generating 475PS of max power and 630Nm of peak torque, and is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The BMW takes the lead on paper with its relatively small displacement turbocharged motor – the 4.4-litre turbocharged BMW V8 puts out a blistering 575PS of peak power and 750Nm of max twist.
The more powerful BMW hits the clock in the 0-100kmph sprint in around 4.2 seconds, while the naturally aspirated Jeep hits it at 4.9 seconds.

The Jeep offers adaptive Bi-Xenon HID headlamps and LED taillights. The SRT rides on 20-inchers – all 295/45 cross-section (all season tyres). In terms of infotainment system, it comes with FCA’s 8.4-inch Uconnect unit coupled to a 19-speaker Harman Kardon system and also comes with a rear seat entertainment unit. It comes with iDrive Touch infotainment unit that features a 10.1-inch display and is coupled to a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system (600W). While Bang & Olufsen high-end surround sound system is optional along with the rear-seat entertainment package.
