Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Singh, grandson of former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, took to his x account to share his happiness after PM Modi announced Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, for former PM. Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tweet, the RLD leader in a short message said: "Dil Jeet Liya [You have won hearts]"
Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, and Dr. MS Swaminathan will be conferred the prestigious Bharat Ratna, Narismha Rao's daughter Vani Devi expressed gratitude towards the prime minister. She said, "It should have been done earlier. His contribution to the nation needs to be honoured."
Dr. M S Swaminathan's daughter Dr Soumya Swaminathan, former Deputy Director General at WHO said,"I am sure that he would have also been happy if the news had come during his lifetime. But he was never somebody who worked for awards or waited for recognition. He was motivated more by the results of what he did on the ground..."
Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his gratitude to PM Modi and shared on his x account that he is extremely happy that the former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh is being honoured with Bharat Ratna. Talking about Chadhary Singh in his post, he said that the former PM dedicated his life to the farmers and did many works for their welfare.
"Chaudhary Saheb remained dedicated to preserving democratic values throughout his life and he fought the Emergency boldly. Through his decisions, he told the entire country that a farmer's son can take policy decisions ranging from the country's livelihood," his post read.
In another post for Former PM PV Narasimha Rao Garu, Amit Shah said that conferring Bharat Ratna to the former PM is a befitting tribute to the legendary statesman who shaped India's history with his intellect, statesmanship, and iconoclastic vision.
"The contributions of PV Narasimha Rao Ji in navigating our economy safely through one of the most turbulent times to an era of inclusive progress will always be remembered. As we celebrate the versatile leadership of PV Narasimha Rao Ji, I also express my heartfelt gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for the decision to honor the political and intellectual giant with the most prestigious award," his post read.
Union Minister Amit Shah shared another congratulatory post for Dr. MS Swaminathan on his X account in which he said that honoring Swaminathan Ji with Bharat Ratna is testament to India's profound sense of gratitude towards the great souls who laid the foundation of its progress.
"Our history remembers Swaminathan Ji as a rare genius whose scientific prowess accomplished the Herculean task of leading our nation from an era of food crisis to food security. An academician par excellence the great Swaminathan Ji's quests not only led to groundbreaking research works but also shaped numerous brilliant minds to continue the legacy. On this momentous occasion, I thank PM Modi for the historic decision to adorn our icon with the highest civilian award," his post read further.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that it is the first time that a government has risen above party politics and taken decisions. "For the first time a government that has taken its cognizance is the Modi government...We take decisions raised above from party politics...," he said.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi reacted to PM Modi's announcemnet and said "I welcome it."
Uttar Pradesh's Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak thanked PM Modi and said that every farmer of the country, especially in UP is happy about the decision. He said, "I want to thank PM Modi. Chaudhary Charan Singh was a prominent farmers' leader...Every farmer of the country & especially UP is happy about this decision...S Swaminathan has done a lot in space science...I thank PM Modi. PV Narasimha Rao has also been conferred with Bharat Ratna..."
BJP MP and former Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi said, "...We welcome the decision. The Congress Govt never honoured them..."
MoS External Affairs Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said “The government has chosen the right people to honour them with the Bharat Ratna. Prof. Swaminathan is a successful agricultural scientist. The government also paid respect to Narasimha Rao's contributions to make India better.”
BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said that the decision shows PM Modi's kindness and affection for the country.
