New Delhi: Security arrangements have been made stringent in Jammu and Kashmir as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Union Territory on April 24 to address panchayats on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Diwas, reported news agency ANI.

Concerns were raised after banned terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad attempted a suicide attack, 17 kilomteres from the place where PM Modi is scheduled to visit on April 24. The attempt was foiled following an encounter on Friday where two suspected Pakistani terrorists were shot down and one personnel of the CISF was also killed, PTI had reported.

Nine security personnel were also killed in the pre-dawn gunfight near an Army camp in Sunjwan area in the outskirts of Jammu.

Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh suspected a “big conspiracy to sabotage Prime Minister’s visit” adding that the they were wearing suicide vests and were equipped with  a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, indicating that they had come to inflict heavy casualties on security forces.

"The encounter took place two days ahead of the prime minister's visit. It is part of a big conspiracy to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu and it could be a big conspiracy to sabotage the visit," Singh said, adding "it is good that we got timely inputs and the operation was concluded successfully."

Around the same time, the two terrorists, in a knee-jerk reaction lobbed grenades towards a CISF bus carrying 15 security personnel towards Jammu airport killing Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) S P Patel and injuring two other occupants.
