New Delhi: With the boxy SUV MU-7 not doing well at all, Isuzu has long felt the need for a replacement. So, reportedly, it has long wanted to launch the MU-X in India by late 2016. As though confirming the same, Isuzu has imported a single prototype model of the MU-X into India.

The single prototype model will be used for testing purposes. Unlike the MU-7, the MU-X takes multiple cues from the Chevrolet Trailblazer to sport bold, daring, aggressive and attractive looks. Both the front and side profiles look very similar to the Trailblazer.

The front looks sculpted with the beefy bumper, clearly laid-out air-dams and the horizontal twin-slat front grille. The twin-slats look very prominent even to the extent of causing a visual distraction. The front face, though typical of an Isuzu mid-size SUV, is bold, daring and upright. With the front lighting cluster, it gets projector headlamps as well as foglamps.

Inside, the steering wheel gets the Isuzu logo, while the cabin and the whole of interiors mimic the Chevrolet Trailblazer. The cabin also gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, cruise control and automatic climate control.

Currently, the Isuzu MU-X SUV model sold in the other international markets draws power from a 3.0-litre diesel mill, which makes a good 174 bhp of peak power and 380 Nm of peak torque. At the same time, it is said that the India-spec MU-X model will borrow its powertrain from the MU-7 SUV, which gets tuned to a slightly lower 161 bhp and 360 Nm power and torque output.

The Isuzu MU-X is expected to open up a fresh slice of the market for the Japanese automaker, who has been lying low with the poor sales of the outgoing MU-7.
