- Bookings are open across all Indian dealerships for a token amount of Rs 2 lakh.
- The Race Replica gets the FTR 750 race-livery, but is mechanically unchanged compared to the ‘S’.
- First flat-track inspired motorcycle to go on sale in India.
Indian Motorcycle has started accepting bookings for the FTR 1200 S and the FTR 1200 S Race Replica in India today. While the S has been priced at Rs 14.99 lakh, the Race Replica retails for Rs 15.49 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom India). Both the models can be booked at any Indian Motorcycle dealership across the country for a token of Rs 2 lakh, with deliveries scheduled to commence from April 2019.
The FTR 1200 S takes inspiration from the company's flat track championship winning motorcycle, the FTR 750. This means the round LED headlamp, exposed frame, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank have been carried over. While the 1200 S gets gold finish on the forks with a black/grey and grey/red colour scheme, the Race Replica gets the FTR 750's race livery. Indian has skipped the standard FTR 1200 variant for our markets.
In terms of features, the motorcycle gets a 4.3-inch touchscreen TFT display with phone connectivity, three riding modes- Sport, Standard and Rain. There’s also an IMU-powered traction control, wheelie control and lean-sensitive stability control.
Powering the motorcycle is a 1203cc V-Twin engine, which is a bored out version of the Indian Scout’s motor. As a result, this motor now churns out 120PS of power (20PS more than the Scout) and 122.5Nm of torque (14.8Nm more than the Scout), mated to a 6-speed transmission. The FTR 1200 is also the first bike from Indian Motorcycle to feature a slipper clutch.
Suspension duties here are handled by fully adjustable Sachs USD forks at the front and a Sachs monoshock unit at the rear. Braking is taken care of by a Brembo 320mm disc with four-piston calipers at the front and a 260mm disc with two-piston caliper at the rear. It also gets cornering ABS as standard (first for a production-spec Indian).
Considering the FTR 1200 S is India’s only street-legal flat-track inspired motorcycle, for now, it currently faces no competition in the market.
