A 20-year-old woman died on the spot after a BMTC bus ran over her while she attempted to board the moving vehicle at the Padmanabha Nagar traffic junction on January 29. The victim, identified as S Monica, a resident of Matriguppe and an employee at a private firm in Bommanahalli, was killed on the spot, as per a report on The Hindu.
The incident took place around 8 AM, as Monica, who worked in Bommanahalli, rushed towards a BMTC bus that had stopped at a signal. Eyewitnesses reported that a passenger had alighted from the bus through the backdoor, and when Monica saw the door open, she attempted to board the vehicle. However, the bus driver, unaware of Monica’s presence, closed the door, causing her to collide with it and fall to the ground, reported Times of India. The bus then continued moving and Monica was struck by it.

The driver fled the scene after the incident, and the entire event was captured on CCTV footage. The authorities are investigating the case and efforts are underway to locate the driver responsible for the accident.

Authorities and transport officials regularly warn against footboard travel, urging passengers to prioritize safety and use designated seating areas. In some places, strict penalties would be imposed on people travelling footboard, considering it a violation of safety regulations.
