New Delhi: In the wake of the rise in the Omicron cases in India, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday that the government would impose restrictions if necessary. On reopening of Delhi schools, Kejriwal said a decision would be taken after the winter vacation, PTI reported.
During the launch of the 'Dilli Ki Yogshala' initiative, Kejriwal said, "We are ready to tackle the Omicron threat. If required, we will impose necessary restrictions. Currently, there is no such need to impose any restrictions...A decision on re-opening of schools will be taken after winter vacation for schools end."
Second Case Of Omicron In Delhi
On Saturday, Delhi recorded its second case of the Omicron Covid variant. The variant was detected in a 35-year-old man who returned from Zimbabwe.
The person is fully vaccinated and is currently quarantined and under treatment at the Lok Nayak Hospital. The man has mild symptoms and also has a travel history to South Africa.
The first case in Delhi was detected on December 5 in a person who returned from Tanzania.
Dilli Ki Yogshala
Meanwhile, the 'Dilli Ki Yogshala' programme, which was announced today, will commence in January 2022.
"Under this initiative, city residents (minimum group of 25) can give a missed call on the number 9013585858 to avail free services of a Yoga teacher provided by Delhi government," Kejriwal was quoted by ANI in its report.
Omicron Cases In India
Four new cases of Omicron were reported in Rajasthan on Monday, taking the total number of infected people in the state to 13 and the India tally to 42.
With this, Rajasthan now stands second after Maharashtra as the state with the highest number of Omicron-infected patients.
On Friday, the Centre had informed that detected cases have so far shown mild symptoms.
"Omicron cases detected comprise less than 0.04 per cent of total variants detected. All detected cases have mild symptoms," Lav Agarwal, joint secretary, union health ministry, said.
The government also warned about the decline in usage of face masks across the country amid the emergence of the Omicron.
Dr VK Paul, NITI Aayog member (health), said people are operating at a "risky and unacceptable" level, stressing that both masks and vaccines are important for protection against Coronavirus disease.
