New Delhi: Widows of three CRPF personnel killed in the 2019 Pulwama attack have sought permission from Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra to end their own lives. They accused the state government of failing to fulfill promises made to them, BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena said on Saturday, as per news agency PTI.
For the last few days, the families of the martyrs have been sitting in a dharna and Meena joined them. He along with the three widows went to Raj Bhawan to hand over a representation to the governor. Thereafter, they moved toward chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s residence where they were stopped by the police.
According to PTI, the BJP leader claimed that the women were pushed by the police personnel and one of the women, Manju Jat, the widow of Rohitashav Lamba got injured and had to be hospitalised.
"The police misbehaved with them even when they were protesting at the assembly gate recently," he alleged.
The Rajya Sabha MP said that instead of fulfilling the demands of the families of the martyrs, the state government was taking recourse to "dictatorship".
Manju Jat, Madhubala, Sundari Devi, and Renu Singh were joined by the family members of the martyrs and Meena handed over the representation in Raj Bhawan, in which the women sought permission for euthanasia.
Meena is sitting at dharna at Shaheed Smarak with the family members of the martyrs.
In February 2019, a suicide bomber targeted the two buses in which forty members of the CRPF were travelling in Jammu and Kashmir. In the Pulwama district of south Kashmir, the buses were part of a larger group of paramilitary vehicles travelling along the highway.
Soon after, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) released a video in which they claimed responsibility for the attack. The suicide bomber claimed to be Adil Ahmad Dar, a local Kashmiri jihadist who lived in Gundibagh, Kakapora, in the Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
