New Delhi: Exactly a year after storming to power for the third consecutive time in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday declared May 2 as "Ma- Mati-Manush" day. The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC defeated anti-incumbency and an aggressive BJP to secure a two-thirds majority in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election.

“I am ever grateful to our Ma- Mati-Manush for having shown to the high and mighty, last year on this day, the indomitable courage of Bengal,” she tweeted.

The TMC chief said the people of West Bengal have shown to the world that there is no “bigger a power than the power of people in a democracy”.

“Our people showed to the world that there is no bigger a power than the power of people in a democracy. Our commitment to true nation building should continue, for there are many more battles to be fought together & won together,” Banerjee wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

“I dedicate this day to Ma- Mati -Manush and urge that this day be henceforth called Ma -Mati- Manush Divas. Jai Hind, Jai Bangla,” she said in a series of tweets.

The TMC swept the elections held last year, winning 213 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly.
