New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday arrived in Goa for her three-day visit to the tourist state since her party, TMC had announced that it will also be contesting the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
During her visit, it is expected that the TMC supremo will be interacting with the party workers, community members, and local politicians.
As per the Times News Network (TNN) report, the West Bengal CM was welcomed by TMC national vice-president Luizinho Faleiro along with the Independent MLA from Sanguem Prasad Gaonkar among various others.
Saffron groups were also present at the airport to protest the TMC supremo's arrival to the tourist state with a chant of "Jai Shri Ram." As per the media reports, they wave black flags and chanted slogans protesting Banerjee's arrival. Further, the groups also breached the Goa police cordon set up at the airport.
Hoardings of "Jai Shri Ram" has been put across the state to rile TMC supremo on her visit to the tourist state. However, the BJP State unit chief has denied the party's involvement in this.
While slamming protesters for defacing the posters put up by TMC, former legislator Lavoo Mamledar was quoted by TNN saying, "There are video clips and photos of TMC posters being torn, painted over. This is the first time that we have seen so much hatred. Why is there such vitriolic practice and hatred now? It is clear that they are afraid of TMC after the charge sheet that we released. They don’t have any answers."
“This is very bad. Nobody would ever destroy posters and write some disgusting things. They want to make Goa into UP it looks like,” Jayesh Shetgaonka was quoted by TNN in its report.
