New Delhi: Vice Chancellor of Punjab's Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Raj Bahadur broke down as state Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring met the former in Mohali on Saturday, reported news agency ANI. The VC had offered to resign after Punjab Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra forced him to lie on a dirty mattress during an inspection, on Friday, of the dermatology department at Faridkot's Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital which comes under BFUHS.

In a one-and-a-half minutes video of the meeting between the Punjab Congress chief and the VC, the former can be seen consoling an emotional Bahadur.

During the inspection, the VC had tried to explain to the state health minister that he was not responsible for the facilities, but the AAP leader said that 'everything was in his hands". Following the incident, 71-year-old Bahadur spoke to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and asked him to relieve him from his duties adding that such an environment was not good for his work.

“I have expressed my anguish to the Chief Minister and said I felt humiliated," he said, reported news agency PTI. Meanwhile, the CM has taken a strong view of the incident and spoken to Jouramajra. Mann has also asked Bahadur to meet him next week, PTI reported.

"When you work so hard and put in your best efforts, one does feel low when you have to face this kind of behaviour," Bahadur told the news agency following the incident.

Coming out in support of the VC, several quarters condemned the minister's conduct including the Indian Medical Assosication. Punjab Civil Medical Service Association, a doctors' body in Punjab, in a statement, strongly condemned the "unceremonious treatment" meted out to Dr Bahadur.
