Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday claimed that violence in Kashmir, Northeast and the Maoist-hit regions across the country has reduced by 80 per cent under the Narendra Modi led government. The Home minister made the statement at an event organised by the Lokmat Media group in Nagpur to celebrate the birth centenary of founder-editor and veteran freedom fighter Jawaharlal Darda, reported news agency PTI.

"Today, I can say that there has been an 80 per cent reduction in violence from terrorism in Kashmir, insurgency in the Northeast and left-wing extremism under the Modi government," Shah said at the event.

Speaking further, the Home Minister said that tourism inflow in the Kashmir valley has increased. He said about 1.8 crore tourists visited the valley in the recent years and called it a "big thing".

There had been investments worth Rs 12,000 crore in Kashmir in 70 years but under the Modi government, it has got Rs 12,000 crore in just three years, said Shah, according to PTI.

"Each home in Kashmir has been provided with tap water and electricity, which is a huge change," said Shah at the event in Nagpur.

While speaking about the northeast region of the country, the Home Minister said that Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) that the people of Northeast had been opposing for years, has been withdrawn from about 60 per cent of the region.

He also highlighted how India is fast becoming "atmanirbhar" in defence production  and asserted that the country is turning into a manufacturing hub in the world under PM Modi.

"Similarly, India will be way ahead in the field of satellites in four to five years," he further said.

The Home Minister did not forget to mention the efforts taken by the Modi government to curb the spread of Coronavirus during the pandemic. He said that the 'Janta curfew' had got a huge response and that Modi is the only leader after Lal Bahadur Shastri to whom the masses in India listened, reported PTI.
