New Delhi: Setting off speculations in political circles, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) chief Shivpal Singh Yadav on Wednesday met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Shivpal Singh Yadav is the uncle of Samajwadi Party chief and Leader of Opposition Akhilesh Yadav.

Shivpal Singh Yadav went to meet Yogi Adityanath just after taking oath as an MLA of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, PTI reported. Shivpal Yadav met Adityanath at the CM's 5 Kalidas Marg residence for about 20 minutes.

Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) spokesperson Deepak Mishra, however, said it was a courtesy call.

"Since he could not meet the Leader of the House after the elections, he met him today after taking oath. He also met the Speaker of the UP Legislative Assembly," Mishra told PTI.

When asked by reporters about his meeting, Shivpal said, "Very soon, I will talk about everything and tell everything."

Shivpal has been sulking ever since he was not invited to the SP legislature party meeting last week even though he had won the election on a SP symbol.

Shivpal Yadav had contested the Assembly elections from Jaswantnagar seat of Etawah and won it for the sixth time.

On Tuesday, he had skipped a meeting in Lucknow between Akhilesh Yadav and SP allie, indicating strains in the opposition alliance.

Just before the state Assembly elections, Shivpal Yadav and Akhilesh had buried the hatchet after being loggerheads since 2017.

Their estrangement had resulted in Shivpal Yadav launching his own party before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The three other MLA who took oath on Wednesday were Fateh Bahadur Singh from Caimpiyarganj (Gorakhpur), Surendra Maithani from Govindnagar (Kanpur) and Ashish Kumar Singh from Bilgram-Mallawa (Hardoi).
