The US Embassy in India warned against immigrants against agents promising to send them across the American border directly and safely.
"Any agent promising to send you across the U.S. border safely and directly is lying to you," said the Embassy in a social media post.
"Agents overpromise and underdeliver. Once you pay, there's no guarantee they will follow through. Instead, they'll leave you to fend for yourself and even extort your family," it warned.
"Don’t risk losing your life or your family’s savings. Illegal migration is not worth the risk or cost," the post read further.
The word of caution comes as the Donald Trump administration in the US began a crackdown on illegal immigration deporting such immigrants back to their country.
Last month, hundreds of Indian deportees arrived in the country in several batches aboard a US Air Force cargo plane. The deportees said they were shackled and restrained throughout the flight, only to be freed upon arrival in India.

US Suspends Use Of Military Aircraft For Deportation
The Trump administration has decided to stop using military aircraft for deporting illegal immigrants due to high costs, reported the Wall Street Journal.
The last military flight for deportation was sent from the US on March 1, before such measures were paused with the possibility of being extended or made permanent.
Soon after Trump returned to the White House in January this year, America started using military aircraft to transport some migrants to their home countries or a military base at Guantanamo Bay. However, the measure proved expensive and inefficient, as per the report.
The US has been conducting around 30 migrant flights using C-17 aircraft and about a dozen on C-130, according to flight-tracking data including destinations to India, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Ecuador and Guantanamo Bay.
