Srinagar Army has removed the commander of Uri Brigade, which was the target of the deadly terror attack on September 18 that claimed the lives of 19 soldiers and left several others injured, defence sources said.
Brigadier K Somashanker has been shifted out of the sensitive brigade, the sources said.
They said an officer from the 28 Mountain Division of the army is scheduled to take over as the Uri Brigade commander. Army officials did not respond to calls seeking comment on the development.
On 18 September, an attack by four heavily armed terrorists took place at Uri sector of J&K. It was reported as "the deadliest attack on security forces in Kashmir in two decades".
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed is suspected of being involved in the planning and execution of the terrorist attack.
However, on Thursday, the Indian government stated the Indian Army had, in response to the Uri attack, successfully conducted "surgical strikes" against militant bases across the LoC (Line of Control) in PoK.
