New Delhi: After pulling off an upset during the 2019 General elections in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi against Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Smriti Irani, shifts her focus to Wayanad in Kerala, which is also Gandhi's constituency.
As part of a two-day trip to Wayanad, the Union Minister on Tuesday chaired a meeting with officials to review the implementation of welfare works and schemes of the Centre in Wayanad and visited a couple of Anganwadi centers in the district developed by a Central Government PSU as part of its CSR activities.
Smriti Irani and Rahul Gandhi locked horns twice in the Lok Sabha elections at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Despite losing in 2014, Smriti Irani avenged the loss with a victory with a huge margin in 2019. Ahead of the 2024 elections, Smriti Irani looks to have a stranglehold over Wayanad to oust the Congress leader from his constituency in Kerala.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi makes a visit to Nepal for a friend's wedding sparked controversy over a barrage of tweets from BJP leaders. Several supporters lashed out at Rahul Gandhi for attending a party while the Congress leader criticises the Centre on social media platforms.
