Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday laid the foundation stone of ‘Balidaan Stambh’ (martyr’s memorial) at Pratap Park in Srinagar. Shah was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to lay the foundation stone during Shah’s two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. In Srinagar, Shah also met with the family members of the Jammu and Kashmir police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. 


According to PTI, the ‘Balidaan Stambh’ project is a part of Srinagar Smart City and it is a tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. Stringent security measurements had been put in place for the event.  


Aside from the LG, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Home Secretary, and Secretary of, the Ministry of Culture were also present for the occasion. 






Soon after the event, Shah went to Raj Bhavan, which is LG Sinha’s official residence. The Union minister also visited the Karan Mahal – the residence of the last Yuvraj of Jammu and Kashmir, Karan Singh. 


Later, Amit Shah met with the family members of the Jammu and Kashmir police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. He distributed appointment letters to the next of kin of eight Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel who lost their lives. 


Shah met with the family members of slain police personnel on the second day of his two-day visit to the Union territory at the Police Golf Course, overlooking the famous Dal Lake. 






"The martyrdom of numerous Jawans of the @JmuKmrPolice who laid down their lives battling terrorists and securing innocent fellow citizens is a testament to what Kashmir and its people stand for," he said on Twitter.


"Today, met the family members of such martyrs in Srinagar and distributed appointment letters on behalf of the J&K govt to the closest kins of the martyrs," Shah added.






During his visit, Shah on Friday laid the foundation stone for Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and handed Golden Health cards to beneficiaries. Shah also met the family members of victims of the Rajouri terror attack.


During a public meeting in Jammu, Shah said that “PM Modi will form his government in the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls with more than 300 seats”.
