New Delhi: Soon after the Finance Minister completed the presentation of the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2022-23, political reactions are storming in with the leaders expressing their disappointments in the Budget.

Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala wrote, “#Budget2022 subsidies deducted, Hit the poor! In FY 2021-22 and current FY 2022-23 -

    • Food subsidy ₹ 2.86 lakh crore less than tax ₹ 2.06 lakh crore!

    • Subsidy on farmer's fertilizers ₹ less than 1.40 lakh crores ₹ 1.05 lakh crores!

    • NAREGA budget reduced from ₹ 98,000 CR to ₹ 73,000 CR!”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed his concern over what was left out of the budget. He was quoted as saying by news agency ANI, “Extremely disappointing, a damp squib! There seems to be absolutely nothing in this Budget. It's an astonishingly disappointing Budget. When you listen to the speech, no mention of MGNREGA, of Defence, of any other urgent priorities facing the public.”

TMC leader Derek O’Brien took to Twitter and echoed similar views to him. He wrote, “Diamonds are this government’s best friend. For the rest— farmers, middle class, daily earners, unemployed— this is a PM (Does Not) Care #Budget2022.”

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also echoed her concerns over the budget lacking in any kind of relief for the common man. Banerjee wrote, “BUDGET HAS ZERO FOR COMMON PEOPLE, WHO ARE GETTING CRUSHED BY UNEMPLOYMENT & INFLATION. GOVT IS LOST IN BIG WORDS SIGNIFYING NOTHING - A PEGASUS SPIN BUDGET.”

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had a similar concern to that of Banerjee. Gandhi wrote on Twitter, “M0di G0vernment’s Zer0 Sum Budget! Nothing for Salaried class, Middle class, The poor & deprived, Youth, Farmers, MSMEs”

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also attacked the center calling out its double standards on climate change. He wrote, “On the one hand, the Budget talks of climate action and protecting the environment. On the other, it pushes ecologically disastrous river-linking projects. Rhetoric sounds nice. But actions matter more. On that front, the Modi govt is on a destructive path.”
