New Delhi: The Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said on Saturday that the government has agreed to the farmers’ demand of decriminalising stubble burning and a committee will be formed to make MSP more transparent. Tomar urged the protesting farmers to end the protest and go back to their homes.
“After the announcement of the repeal of the three farm laws, there is no point in continuing farmers' agitation. I urge farmers to end their agitation and go home,” Tomar said while speaking to news agency ANI.
“PM Narendra Modi has announced to constitute a committee to deliberate on the issues of crop diversification, zero-budget farming, & making the MSP system more transparent & effective. This committee will have representatives from farmers' organizations,” he added while addressing the demands of the farmers after the repeal of the three farm laws.
“With the constitution of this committee, farmers' demand on MSP stands fulfilled,” said the agriculture minister.
He further assured the protesting farmers that their demands will be fulfilled and the protests should end now. “Farmer organizations had demanded to decriminalize stubble burning by farmers. Govt of India has accepted this demand as well,” he said.
Tomar also addressed the demands made by the farmers regarding the cases registered against the protesting farmers and the compensation for those who died during the year-long protest.
“As far as cases registered during the protest are concerned, it comes under the jurisdiction of state govts & they will take a decision. State govts will decide on the issue of compensation too, as per their state policy,” he said.
On November 19, the Prime Minister had announced that the controversial farm laws that led to an outrage and year-long protest by the farmers at Delhi’s borders will be repealed. The Farm Laws Repeal Bill is scheduled to be tabled in the parliament on November 29, the first day of the winter session.
