The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain the petitions by a group of candidates challenging the decision of cancelling UGC-NET 2024 Exams due to alleged paper leaks and conducting a re-test for the exam on August 21.
A bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard the matter and said it is not inclined to intefere in the matter.
The top court noted that the UGC-NET exam was conducted on June 18. However, following allegations of paper leak, the Centre cancelled the exam on June 19. Consequent of which a fresh exam will now be conducted on August 21.

"At present stage the petitioners have challenged the decision...nearly 2 months have lapsed, entertaining the petition would only add uncertainty and result in utter chaos." the bench noted in its order.
The apex court noted that over 9 Lakh candidates appeared in UGC-NET 2024 Exam on June 18. And the Centre migh have cancelled the exam following the doubts and controversy around the NEET exam and allegations of paper leak in the UGC-NET exam. The bench said that if it interferes at this stage, it will only lead to more chaos and uncertainity for students.
"Let there be finality, we are not in a perfect world. Let the exams happen on August 21. Let there be certainty for students," CJI said.

The bench noted that over 9 lakh students are taking part in the exam and only 47 petitioners have challenged the re-test.
The Ministry of Education on June 19 announced the cancellation of the Exam following doubts over 'compromised integrity' which was flagged by the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
