New Delhi: The Managing Director of Twitter India, Manish Maheshwari, will be moving into a new role based in San Francisco, the Vice President of Twitter's Japan, South Korea, and Asia Pacific division announced on Friday.

The new US-based role for Twitter India's MD comes in after the microblogging platform's tussle with the Indian government over adherence to new IT Rules.

While the tussle with the Centre seems to have nearing a state of conclusion, the new controversy involving Twitter has it being attacked over allegations of silencing the opposition after the account of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress-related handles were restricted.

"Thank you to @manishm for your leadership of our Indian business over the past 2+ years. Congrats on your new US-based role in charge of revenue strategy and operations for new markets worldwide. Excited to see you lead this important growth opportunity for Twitter," Yu Sasamoto, the Vice President of Twitter's JAPAC division, tweeted.

The Twitter India Managing Director, Manish Maheshwari, was recently embroiled in the Loni case that was registered over a "communally sensitive" video uploaded and circulated on the microblogging platform.

He had sought the quashing of a notice issued by the Uttar Pradesh police seeking his physical presence in connection with the investigation, earlier having indicated that he was prepared to cooperate with the probe through video conference.

Maheshwari had approached the Karnataka High Court against the Uttar Pradesh Police's notice seeking his presence.

Meanwhile, the social media giant has decided to not appoint any country director for its operations in India, India Today reported.

Twitter India will be guided by a 'leadership council' with its key executives reporting to Twitter's overseas executives, the report stated.
