DEHRADUN: Trivendra Singh Rawat, former state BJP chief, will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Saturday.

The newly elected BJP legislators in Uttarakhand met on Friday in Dehradun and elected Rawat as their leader in the presence of central observers Saroj Pandey and Narendra Tomar.

  • Trivendra, MLA from Doiwala, has also managed to remain in the race for the top office because of his strong RSS background and long experience in ministerial positions. He also has an advantage owing to his clean image.

  • He is currently in-charge of the party’s Jharkhand unit. He played a significant role in BJP’s victory in the state.

  • He closely worked with BJP chief Amit Shah in Western UP during 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

  • He first won the Doiwala assembly seat in 2002 and was state agriculture minister in 2007-2012.

  • Rawat won Doiwala defeating HiraSingh Bisht of Congress by 24,869 votes in 2017 Uttarakhand state assembly polls. Speaking to ABP News, he said,"Sabr Ka Fal Meetha Hota Hai Hai"
