The personal bodyguard and close associate of a Trinamool Congress legislator from West Bengal’s Purulia district was found dead within the premises of the MLA hostel in Kolkata on Saturday, according to the news agency IANS.


According to the report, Jaideb Gharai was a constable of the state police, and the bodyguard of Rajib Lochan Saren, the TMC legislator from Bandwan Assembly constituency. A police squad, accompanied by four forensic team members and led by Priyabrata Roy, the Deputy Commissioner of South Division in Kolkata Police, arrived at the location. Roy said that the matter is under investigation and the body was sent for post-mortem. 






“We are investigating the matter. The body has been sent already for post-mortem purpose and the exact reason behind his death will be known only after the autopsy report comes,” said an investigating official, per the IANS report.

The occurrence of this incident has prompted numerous questions, particularly concerning how such an incident like this could occur in a high-security zone like the MLA hostel, according to an IANS report. The investigative team has started to question security personnel who were on duty at the hostel from Friday night until Saturday morning.


Meanwhile, an official from the city police stated that preliminary investigations suggest that the incident is being treated as a case of suicide.


As reported by PTI, West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee visited the MLA hostel after learning about the incident.
