Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Priyanka Tibrewal, who will lock horns with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the by-election to the Bhabanipur seat, on Saturday alleged the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has promoted injustice and violence against public.

Tibrewal, who offered prayers at the Kalighat Temple here, said that she would begin her campaigning for the by-election from Sunday.

“I have come to pray to Maa Kali for protection of the people against injustice that has happened here. My fight is against the party in power that has promoted injustice and violence against public,” she said, ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) leader Satadaru Roy referred to Banerjee as an “ex-CM” and said that she would face a “record defeat” in Bhabanipur.

“Everyone knows that “ex-CM’s” (Mamata Banerjee) defeat has already started from Nandigram. Take my word - even if it is a one-vote margin, she will face a record defeat in Bhabanipur,” he said, ANI reported.

The West Bengal Chief Minister has to win this by-poll to retain her post.

TMC’s Sovandeb Chattopadhyay stepped down as the MLA of Bhabanipur, giving his party supremo an opportunity to become a member of the state assembly by contesting the by-poll.

Banerjee has to become a member of the state legislature by November 5.
