New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that Kashmir has suffered a lot because of Article 370, and blamed former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru for the problems in the region.

Hitting out at Nehru, Shah said that the decision to take the Kashmir issue to the United Nation was "individually" taken by Jawaharlal Nehru.

He said that people have wrong notions about Article 370. “Even today there are many rumours doing rounds about Article 370 and Kashmir. It is important to clarify them,” Shah said addressing a gathering in New Delhi.

“ We know since 1947 Kashmir has been a matter of discussion and controversy but distorted history was presented before people”, he added.

“Since the responsibility of writing history was in the hands of the same people who had committed mistakes, so as a result true facts were hidden,” he said while attacking the Congress party.

“I think time has come that correct history is written and presented before people,” he stated.

“Culture of Sufi saints in Kashmir was destroyed, where were these champions of human rights then? Where were they when Kashmiri Pandits were driven out of the region,” Shah questioned.

Kashmir has suffered because of article 370, he said.

He hailed Sardara Vallabhai Patel’s efforts in the integration of Indian territory. He said that Sarder Patel united 630 provinces, while Nehru had just one task (Jammu and Kashmir), which also PM Modi had to complete now.
