As the Opposition meeting in Patna is underway, Union Minister Smriti Irani on Friday hit out at the Congress by saying that she is thankful to the Grand Old Party for announcing that they cannot defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She added that this opposition meeting also reflected that the Congress needs the support of other parties to challenge PM Modi.
While addressing to the media, she said, "It is a matter to laugh upon that some leaders who watched Democracy being murdered during the Emergency have now united under the leadership of Congress. It is a matter to laugh upon that the people who are sending a signal to the nation that they can't defeat PM Modi alone, will now unite together. I especially want to thank Congress for publically announcing that it alone is incapable of defeating the Prime Minister alone and they need help of others in doing so."
As opposition meeting commenced in Patna on Friday, several leaders from across the nation have gathered to chalk out a roadmap to form a non-BJP government in 2024 after the Lok Sabha elections. The meeting is being hosted by the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
One of the loudest ringing issue ahead of the meeting was of the Delhi ordinance. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge ahead of the meeting said that the grand old party will take decision on supporting AAP on the Centre's ordinance in the national capital before the Parliament session. "We all want to fight together against BJP and our agenda is to remove the BJP govt... We will take a decision on this (on supporting AAP against the Centre's ordinance) before the Parliament session," Kharge said, as quoted by ANI.
