Poet Kumar Vishvas took a veiled dig at actor Shatrughan Sinha indirectly referring to her daughter Sonakshi Sinha's wedding to her longtime boyfriend Zahir Iqbal. Vishvas, while talking at a public event, asked the audience to teach Ramayana to their children.

"Teach your children the Ramayana, or someone else might take away the 'Lakshmi' of your house, even if the house is named 'Ramayana'," Vishvas said at a poetry event in Uttar Pradesh. Shatrughan Sinha's Mumbai house is named 'Ramayana'.

Congress Reacts To Kumar Vishvas' Remarks

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate attacked Kumar Vishvas for making the "lewd" comments. "If you have a daughter in your house, would you make lewd comments on someone else's daughter and get cheap applause?" she asked in a post on X. "By doing this, you can already guess to what extent you have fallen. Kumar Vishwas ji, you not only made a cheap comment on Sonakshi Sinha's inter-religious marriage, but you also exposed your real thinking about women," the Congress leader added.

She further said, "Your words 'otherwise someone else will take away the Shri Lakshmi of your house'. Is a girl some kind of thing that someone can take away somewhere? Till when will people like you keep considering a woman as the property of her father first and then of her husband? The foundation of marriage and marriage is equality, mutual trust and mutual love. No one takes anyone anywhere."

Another Congress leader, Surendra Rajput called the statement “cheap comments”. He added that even "Lord Rama will not forgive them."
