New Delhi: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supremo Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said the Taliban are now a reality, adding they can “set an example for the world if they follow the real Sharia law”.
The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the Taliban had an image of “anti-human rights” during their first rule in Afghanistan.
“Taliban is emerging as a reality. They had an image of anti-human rights during their first rule. They can set an example for the world if they follow the real Sharia law, which includes women rights and not their interpretation of Sharia,” she told the media in Kulgam, ANI reported.
Earlier in the day, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah told the media in Srinagar that he hoped the Taliban would “deliver good governance” in accordance with “Islamic principles”.
Abdullah said “they should ensure to protect the human rights of their citizens and give them a just and honourable government under the Islamic rules”.
Weeks after seizing control of Kabul, the Taliban had on Tuesday announced an interim government in Afghanistan to be led by Mullah Hasan Akhund.
Taliban co-founder Abdul Ghani Baradar, who had led talks with the United States and signed the deal that led to America's final withdrawal from Afghanistan, will be one of the two deputies to Akhund in the new Taliban regime.

Mullah Abdus Salam will be another deputy to Akhund.
