New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, who held a consultative committee meeting on the developments in Ukraine in the national capital on Thursday, gave a presentation about the evacuation of Indians from the war-torn nation and the current situation.


The External Affairs Minister clarified and said that students had doubts about their academic position, adding the Ukrainian government was giving assurance on the situation, sources said, ANI reported.


The Congress leaders present in the meeting supported the government’s stand of abstaining from voting in the UNSC, sources added.


The External Affairs Minister also tweeted about the meeting and thanked all members for their participation.

“Just completed a MEA consultative committee meeting on developments in Ukraine. A good discussion on the strategic and humanitarian aspects of the issue. Strong and unanimous message of support for efforts to bring back all Indians from Ukraine,” Jaishankar tweeted.



“A national consensus on the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. Thank all members for their participation,” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform.



Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Anand Sharma were among those present in the meeting.


The meeting assumes significance as it takes place a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Ukraine conflict.


“The leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine, especially in the city of Kharkiv where many Indian students are stuck.  They discussed the safe evacuation of the Indian nationals from the conflict areas,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement.


The Central government has intensified the evacuation of stranded Indians from Ukraine.
