A major fire broke out at a godown in Kolkata's Tangra area in West Bengal on Saturday night which is yet to be extinguished even after 16 hours.


A cloud of smoke was still coming out from the godown in Kolkata. The fire broke out at around 6:30 pm as per PTI. 


The fire broke out at a tannery in the Tangra area of Kolkata on Saturday. 16 fire tenders were present at the spot to douse the towering flames, a senior official of the fire department said.






The building where the fire broke out was used as a tannery on 3 Maher Ali Lane in a congested in Kokata. The cause of the fire was unknown. 


"Can't say about the damage yet. The situation is under control: Ranvir Kumar," DG Fire department on fire incident in Tangra area, Kolkata told ANI.



Despite the overnight efforts of the fire tenders, the fire could not have been put off completely. Even on Sunday morning, close to 16 hours after the incident, the smoke kept puffing out of the building. No casualties have been reported so far. 


This is the second incident of fire breaking out in a couple of days. Seven people were found dead in Delhi's Gokulpuri area on Friday after a slum cluster caught fire. Close to 60 shanties were completely gutted.
