New Delhi: BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi was arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut by the Noida Police on Tuesday, reported news agency ANI. The move comes after a video of Tyagi surfaced online where he could be seen threatening and assaulting a resident of the housing complex in Noida's Sector 93. A day before illegal properties belonging to Tyagi were rased down by Noida authorities. 


On Sunday, some men supporting Tyagi barged the residential complex after which seven of them were arrested and taken for interrogation, the police had said. 






Six police officials were also suspended in this case over laxity said UP ADG (law and order) Prashant Kumar as reported by news agency PTI. Two personal security officers had also been provided to the woman complainant in the case, said UP ADG.


Tyagi came under the light after the woman objected to planting of some trees by him citing violation of rules following which he allgedly abused the woman and pushed her. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media. 


Later, charges under IPC sections 447 (criminal trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) were added against him, according to officials.  "A reward of Rs 25000 has been announced by the Commissionerate Gautam Budh Nagar Police on the arrest of accused Shrikant Tyagi, named in an FIR lodged at police station Phase-2 of Commissionerate Gautam Budh Nagar," the police had said in a statement.
