Shivling In Gyanvapi Mosque Complex 'Found' Fixed To The Ground: Key Points

The Supreme Court will hear on Tuesday the plea of the management of Gyanvapi mosque against the survey of the Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex.

New Delhi: The 'shivling', allegedly found inside a well during the videography survey of the Gyanvapi Masjid complex, is located three feet below the platform and is completely fixed to the ground, sources told ABP News. The whole pond has now been sealed following orders by a Varanasi court and water has been drained out. However, sources said only one shivling has been found despite reports claiming that multiple idols were recovered.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear on Tuesday the plea of the management of Gyanvapi mosque against the survey of the Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and PS Narasimha will be hearing the plea.

Here Are The Top Developments Today On The Gyanvapi Masjid Issue:

• The videography survey of the Gyanvapi Masjid complex was completed on Monday. Counsels representing the Hindu petitioners claimed that a Shivling was found close to the wazookhana -- a small reservoir used by Muslim devotees to perform rituals before offering the namaz.


•  An advocate from the Hindu side, Madan Mohan Yadav, claimed that the shivling was "Nandi faced", IANS reported The shivling is 12 feet by 8 inches in diameter, he said. The court-appointed committee will submit its report to the Varanasi court on Tuesday.


• However, a mosque management committee spokesperson disputed the claim and said that the object was part of a fountain.


•  A Varanasi court directed the district administration to seal the spot where the alleged shivling was found. Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar directed the district magistrate, police commissioner and CRPF commandant in Varanasi to ensure the security of the sealed area.


• Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya expressed satisfaction over the development. "The news of a 'shivling' being found at (Gyanvapi) mosque premises is happy news for me and for all shiv followers of the country. The truth has come to light," ANI quoted Maurya as saying. However, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said Muslims were not prepared to lose another mosque after the Babri Masjid.
