Shiv Sena MLA Dilip Lande took matters into his own hands in a bid to apparently fixing accountability when he had a contractor sit on the road that was visibly under a poor condition and asked workers to dump garbage on him.

Here's a video of the incident.

"I did this as the contractor didn't do his job properly," the Chandivali MLA said.

"I had been calling up the contractor for the last 15 days, requesting him to clear the road. He never did that. Shiv Sena people were themselves working on it. When he came to know, he rushed there. I told him that it's his responsibility and he should do it,": he added.

As per the responses on the video, while there is some support, most netizens don't seem to be very pleased with this move as they seek political accountability recalling how such a situation arises every year in Mumbai during the monsoon season. Some users wrote that this action is against the basic dignity that should be given to a person.

Heavy rains, coupled with thunderstorms and strong winds lashed Mumbai and its suburbs in the past few days causing disruption of train and bus services as tracks and roads got waterlogged at several locations.

Water-logging was witnessed at several locations in Bandra east, Hindmata, King's Circle, Kurla Kamani and Wadala. Five incidents of house collapse and nine incidents of short circuit were reported till 6 pm, BMC officials said.

By evening, the rains subsided and the train traffic had returned to normal on Saturday. The India Meteorological Department, meanwhile, downgraded its rain alert for the city and neighbouring Thane for the next two days. The "red alert" warning of "extremely heavy" rain was downgraded to "orange alert" of heavy or very heavy rain.

While Mumbai every year struggles with Monsoon woes debilitating the life of locals, is Shiv Sena MLA right in publicly shaming the contractor, or should such theatrics be reserved for the mass movies? Let us know in the comments below.
