New Delhi: Reacting to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks on UPA, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that she is making all efforts to weaken the Congress.

Taking a jibe at Banerjee’s comments earlier in the day, Chowdhury said, “Does Mamata Banerjee not know what UPA is? I think she has started madness. She thinks entire India has started chanting 'Mamata, Mamata'. But India doesn't mean Bengal & Bengal alone doesn't mean India. Her tactics in the last polls (in WB) are slowly getting exposed.”

The reaction comes after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo on Wednesday said that there is no UPA now and that it would be easy to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if all the regional parties come together. She also took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over lack of an expert team and said, “One can’t be abroad all the time.”

Taking potshots at Mamata Banerjee, Chowdhury said that the BJP and Mamata’s political game of ‘communal polarisation’ in West Bengal is slowly getting revealed.

“'Miley Sur Mera Tumhara, Toh Sur Bane Hamara' is the stance of Mamata Banerjee today to keep BJP happy,” said Chowdhury, adding, “In 2012 Mamata Banerjee had made some excuses to withdraw her support to UPA. She had wanted to break the UPA govt at that time. But she didn't succeed because there were other parties that immediately supported the Govt. It's an old conspiracy by her. Today her strength has increased because Modi ji is standing behind her.”

Earlier, slamming Banerjee’s remarks, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that everyone knows the truth of Indian politics and defeating the BJP without the support of the Congress is just a dream.
