Ahead of Farmer's Chakka Jam across the country to protest against the government's Farm Laws, national capital has taken huge precautions to avoid a repeat of Republic Day violence. Around 50,000 police personnels along with paramilitary forces have been deployed across the borders of the national capital. Huge barricading can be seen in the national capital and drone cameras have been deployed to monitor the 'Chakka Jam' situation.
Keeping in view of the January 26 violence, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today closed the entry and exit gates at several metro stations.
The DMRC has closed the entry and exit gates of metro stations, mainly in the north and central Delhi, ahead of three-hour chakka jam (road block)
List of closed Metro stations:
- Lal Quila
- Jama Masjid
- Janpath
- Central Secretariat
- Mandi House
- ITO
- Delhi Gate
- Vishwavidyalaya
Several other metro stations have been put on alert by the Delhi Police for closing the entry and exit gates in view of any disturbance.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait said that no roads will be blocked in Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. He, however, added that farmers in these states have been kept on standby and will be called to the national capital for protests. Another farmer leader Sarwan Pandher has said that other Farmer unions can hold Chakka Jan in Uttar Pradesh.
Extensive barricading measures have been undertaken at the Ghazipur border with water cannon vehicles deployed, as a preemptive measure to deal with possible disturbances resulting from 'Chakka Jaam' calls by farmer unions protesting against farm laws
