Hisar (Haryana): Self-styled godman Rampal was on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment in connection with the murder of four women and a child. The quantum of sentence in the murder of one more woman will be pronounced tomorrow. Rampal was found guilty by a court here in two murder cases last Thursday. Additional District and Sessions Judge, Hisar, D R Chaliya, held Rampal and some of his followers guilty in these cases.
Rampal and 27 of his followers were charged with murder and wrongful confinement after four women and a child were found dead in his Satlok Ashram in Barwala town in Hisar on November 19, 2014.
According to PTI, the first one was lodged on the complaint of one Shivpal of Mithapur near Badrapur in Delhi, while the second one was lodged by Suresh of Jakhora village of Lalitpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Both of them had alleged that their respective wives had been murdered inside Rampal's ashram at Barwala village where they had been held captive by the godman and his followers. Besides the murder charges, the Barwala police had also invoked offences of wrongful confinement in the two FIRs
He has been in prison since November 2014.
