Chennai, Tamil Nadu: In a shocking incident, a security guard who used to work at late Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad estate was killed on late Sunday night by unidentified men.
Another security guard was seriously injured and was rushed to hospital therafter. Though the actual reason behind the attack is yet to be revealed, the attack is being viewed as a possible robbery attempt.
Investigation into the matter is underway. Further details are awaited. The incident comes in the wake of the raging power struggle in the state between the two factions of the ruling party - All India Anna Munnetra Dravida Kazhagam (AIADMK) - one led by Chief Minister E. Palanisamy and the other by former chief minister O. Panneerselvam.
The police have filed a complaint and are investigating the whole matter.
The estate is a 900-acre property with large tea gardens. Ms Jayalalithaa used to stay at the palatial bungalow there for rest and treatment over the last few years before she died. She also used to work from there, with top bureaucrats shifting base from Chennai to Kodanad briefly during those times.
