New Delhi: The editor of a local publication was booked for allegedly duping people by claiming he would come out with a compilation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme speeches, news agency ANI reported.

The accused has been identified as Alok Ranjan Tiwari, who is the founder and editor-in-chief of a monthly magazine.

According to a police official in Mumbai, the accused used to send out letters on the social media and to some prominent personalities asking for funds for this purpose.

According to the official, a 49-year-old complainant, who is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, believed the editor’s claims to be true and donated Rs 4,000.

“The accused has no permission to come out with any such compilation, He was trying to cheat people by claiming the book, called Saar Granth, will be launched by the President in March. A case was registered after the victim submitted a written application to Unit XI of the Crime Branch,” news agency PTI quoted the police official as saying.

Police further said that the accused did not seek permission from the government and used PM Modi’s name to collect donations.

According to police, Tiwari used several social media platforms, including YouTube, to circulate the information that he was compiling an abstract book, that would have all the important information from PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ episodes.

Tiwari further claimed that he would publish the book in March, 2023, police said.

A case of cheating case has been registered against the accused at Goregaon police station and further investigation into the matter is underway, police further added.
